Busy in Mount Joy - Gus's Keystone Family Restaruant

You can tell by the clientele and how busy some places are how good the food is, or is going to be. I've been eating at Gus's for about 3 years now and each Sunday after church service this is OUR stop. We eat here with family, friends and sometimes just the 3 of us, Steph, me and of course our little nose picker.

There always seems to be a wait, which is not always a bad thing, since it gives us some time to see familiar faces and do some chitting - chatting with those we haven't seen or talked to in some time..."did you hear???", "So and So just had a baby", "Oh, my, they had a bake sale at...", "Old man what's his name just had a..." and my favorite, since my wife is from the big city of Mount Joy..."I can remember when you were...", w/the pinching of the cheeks...LOL.

Sometimes its not always about the food...but since this is a blog about food, I'll keep it as such. My favorite when we go in the morning is the Avocado Breakfast Burrito!

The shear size of it will make you stand back and wonder if this will be your dinner too. It weighs about 1 1/2 pounds, and its served with home-fries. The combo of eggs, sausage, ham, onions, green peppers and all that melted cheese w/the ohhhhh so sweet taste of avocado makes this a do over every time! The way the avocado melts in your mouth w/its sweetness, and the green peppers adds the right texture w/its crispness. But the part that makes this burrito so good is all the salt provided by the ham. That's were they get ya! Your thinking oh, my, what a great burrito...and then POW!! Right in the middle of your palate! The formula of just the right of amount of saltiness to the sweetness makes this my favorite item on menu in the morning. My son can't seem to say anything other than, "I want a grilled cheese w/chocolate milk!" morning or evening and of course they serve it to him! Steph always orders your typical homestyle breakfast of eggs over easy, which basically is a place for her to dip her toast to get the fatty goodness of the yolk, with home-fries (fried) and bacon w/toast. All the prices are reasonable for the 3 of us around $20 w/tip.

Now for dinners...that will have to be something you experience on your own. They make some really good soups, which they change everyday. They provide a nice seafood menu, along w/some Greek dishes and the food is always fresh and made homemade. If your looking for a nice place to eat in Mount Joy, that offers some nice smiles and maybe some familiar faces...This is the spot!
